SUPER STEM STUDENTS
In this unit, fourth and fifth grade students worked to complete design challenges. Each week, pairs of students were given a set of materials (straws, sticks, duct tape, papers, etc..) and an a challenge such a building a tower, a boat, an air powered car, etc. They then worked collaboratively to plan, design, build, redesign, and rebuild. Students followed the mottos of "if it doesn't say you can't, you can," as well as "fail fast succeed faster." Not giving up and not being afraid to redesign occasionally even start all over again were learning opportunities in this unit! Students also learned that there might be many designs that can complete the challenge, however, some are better than others, and understanding the basic principles of physics and engineering is VERY HELPFUL!
